This exclusive masterclass was held at United Spirits’ tasting room in Central Hong Kong. Attendees, including collectors, distributors, and enthusiasts, learned about the intricate process of whiskey aging. The master blender shared insights from decades of experience, explaining how factors like wood type, warehouse location, and climate influence the final product.
Key Highlights
The highlight was a comparative tasting of Sunny Land Single Malt aged in different casks: ex-bourbon, sherry, and virgin oak. Guests could clearly taste the impact of each cask type. The master blender also demonstrated how to read a whiskey’s color and viscosity to predict its flavor profile. The session concluded with a Q&A and a signing of limited-edition bottles.

Future Initiatives
United Spirits will launch a “Whiskey Academy” series, with monthly masterclasses on different aspects of whiskey production and appreciation. The next session, “The Science of Peat,” will explore the role of peat in Scotch whiskey. A digital “Whiskey Aging Simulator” will also be developed, allowing users to virtually experiment with cask types and aging conditions.
